Welcome to Friends Of Castleford Library (FOCAL) web site. We are a group of friendly people who are so passionate about our local library that we befriended it.
FOCAL was established in February 1998. A group of local people who use the library decided that such a valuable asset deserved to be promoted and supported.
- Promote and raise the profile of Castleford Library
- Organise activities and events of local and community interest
- Attract new members and encourage all sections of the community to be represented
The new museum and library building (The Castleford Forum) opened On 9th December, 2013.
FOCAL members meet to discuss matters that affect the library. We hold meetings every two months at the library at 5.15pm. New members are always welcome, to get involved e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org or download a membership form.
The friends would like to thank Wakefield Council for their support by awarding us two Neighbourhood Improvement Grants in 2017.
The first award was to purchase flowering hanging baskets which will be part of the Castleford In Bloom 2017.
The second is to purchase a wall mounted visual display unit that will be placed in the library. It will show images from the photographs collection, local history information and a host of other information relative to the library.

Book: Castleford Free Library 1905-2005
FOCAL have produced a book, Castleford Free Library 1905-2005. Researched and written by members Pat Bentley and Margaret Lound, it tells the history of the library. A fascinating read and a must-purchase. It is available for sale in Castleford library.
